We would very much like to welcome you to Sylina, our FOUR STAR SILVER AWARD winning Guesthouse which is situated in a beautiful and tranquil part of the island. It is owned and run by a local Scillonian “Girl” and her husband who has made Scilly his home for over 20 years. Let us share our love, passion and knowledge of these idyllic islands to help you make the most of your stay whether you are a first time visitor or a long standing lover of Scilly.
Sylina was built by the previous owners 18 years ago and run as a B&B for a number of years before we bought it; we are now entering our fourth season and have made massive improvements to the property in this time. In 2007 we built our stunning conservatory which opens on to a large garden both of which are available for our guests sole use at all times.
Our country location means you are guaranteed the peace and quiet people coming to Scilly appreciate and you will see that there is so much more to St. Mary's than just Hugh Town. Bar Beach is at the end of our lane and if you continue round the coastal path you will discover Pelistry Beach “the locals favourite”. Halangy Ancient Village and Bants Carn Burial Chamber are no more than 10 minutes walk away, this is the most perfect spot to watch the sun setting over Samson and Bryher, and sometimes you may be lucky enough to encounter our local BT engineer playing his bagpipes to the setting sun!
When staying at Sylina you can enjoy a full cooked English breakfast to set you up for a days exploring; vegetarian and lighter options are also available. We use local free range eggs in our cooking and you will notice the difference immediately. Breakfast is served between 8.00-8.30am to allow you to walk to the quay to catch the 10.15 tripper boats, if you don't fancy the walk the 09.25 bus picks up at the top of our lane and will get you in to town in plenty of time, alternatively you can hire a bike from Shaun at St. Mary's Bike Hire and there are several good taxi services available. An early breakfast can be arranged for guests departing on early flights.
As we are out of town don't worry about where to eat; we offer a three course evening meal three nights a week served in our spacious dining room using as much local produce as possible. Why not book your holiday to start on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday so you can enjoy one of our delicious home cooked meals rather than worrying about where to eat on your first night? All special diets can be catered for but please give us as much notice as possible.
We offer locally reared beef and pork from Tolman & Longstone Farm, fish caught by the local fisherman and as many local seasonal vegetables as we can; quite often it is picked to order at 4pm and is served to you at 6.30pm, it doesn't get much fresher than that! On the nights that we don't cook Juliet's Garden and the Golf Club are within walking distance; in “town” all of the pubs offer bar snacks and there are some great restaurants and cafes to sample. We can let you know which the current popular places are, just ask!
For further information or to make a booking please give us a call, we really look foward to hearing from you.
